Returning for its 3rd season, the ABC drama series “Castle” is poised to reclaim viewers’ hearts all over again – especially after the heart-lurching moment when Richard Castle suddenly decided to spend the summer with his ex-wife, just as Detective Kate Beckett was about to accept his invitation to spend the summer together. Having reached a pivotal moment in their blossoming relationship, it will be fascinating to find out exactly where Castle and Beckett now stand. Will their professional relationship remain professional or will the seeds of jealousy begin to unravel their partnership?
Based on the premise of a mystery writer shadowing a modern day police detective as a source of inspiration for his books, “Castle” invites viewers into the dark world of crime, as seen through a distinctly rose-colored lens. In addition to the amazing balance of dark drama and comedic dialogue, Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic’s chemistry is electric. Portraying Castle and Beckett, their lively banter, quick quips and frisson-filled innuendos are a deliciously humorous treat.
Aiding in their crime-fighting adventures are fellow detectives Javier Esposito (Jon Huertas) and Kevin Ryan (Seamus Dever), medical examiner Dr. Lanie Parish (Tamala Jones), Captain Montgomery (Ruben Santiago-Hudson), and on the home front there are Castle’s mother, Martha Rodgers (Susan Sullivan), and Castle’s daughter, Alexis (Molly Quinn).
Whether it is at home or in the office, everywhere Richard Castle goes, he is beloved by all. He is the life of the party and knows it. But wearing his popularity lightly, Castle defers to the superior sleuthing skills of Beckett who puts her life on the line to make sure that the criminals get exactly what is coming to them. “Castle” may be a crime drama, but it enjoys a healthy does of comedic levity mixed in. It also adds just a touch of romance to keep things spicy.
Whether it is with nods to the “Firefly” fans or incorporating teasing scenes with fellow mystery writers Stephen J. Cannell, James Patterson and Michael Connelly, “Castle” does its best to provide a delightful concoction of tantalizing mystery.
To find out what mysteries lie ahead for Castle, Beckett and their friends, be sure to tune in for its third season premiere on Monday, September 20th. “Castle” airs Monday nights at 10:00 p.m. on ABC.
